design and self-production

Design suggest something like a chair, functional and minimal, where details are very important like forms and utility. Maybe in the past thinking about design was just related to forniture but nowadays that could be too reductive. Design is everywhere, in a bottle, in the street or in a service. The spreading of this phenomenon is linked to globalisation and to the mission that has always been behind design: improving the word through new material and new technology. The paradigm is that society asks question and designers give answer. Of course, practice has not overcome theory, as of yet, but we can be optimistic. But what is design actually about? It's about manipulation; the work starts with a given that is then transformed to supply another point of view. Like everything, this process requires time and money, so what actually makes a good designer is passion and ability to find financial support. There is a lack of technical tools in the design system, so young designers can find it very difficult to emerge. Because of this, more and more young designers decide to start they own activity. What I want to explore with my blog is the concept of design as self-production: trying to sneak into the world known as "do it yourself".
